John Pickering, candidate for State House of Representatives, received an endorsement today from the Georgia Association of Educators.

The Georgia Association of Educators is the most experienced and effective professional organization for teachers, administrators, and educational support professionals within Georgia's public schools. GAE provides representation within the state legislature and state agencies on educational issues, support for the rights of educators, and an extensive benefits package for its membership.

Although it's an affiliate of the National Education Association, GAE has always been controlled by its diverse statewide membership—making it an organization by the members, for the members. The Association represents teachers, counselors, media specialists, school psychologists and social workers, principals, superintendents, supervisors, educational support professionals, higher education faculty, retired educators, and students. From this varied membership comes the Representative Assembly, the highest governing body within the organization. Delegates elected to the Representative Assembly are based on one delegate for every 35 members from each of the 186 local GAE-affiliated associations. The chosen delegates convene to adopt GAE's policies and resolutions and to finalize GAE's priorities and budget for the following year.

John and Tammie Pickering fell in love with Forsyth County nine years ago, and decided to raise their children here. The Pickering family are residents of the Grand Cascades Subdivison. Since moving to Forsyth County, John has been active in numerous capacities to ensure the quality of life that all Forsyth Countians enjoy. During his many years as homeowners' advocate, campaign manager and school advocate, he has been asked repeatedly, "When will you run for office?". John has always been content to work "behind the scenes" to promote the responsibilities our elected officials have toward their constituents. The creation of District 24 inspired him to step into the role of candidate. The vast majority of District 24 is home to the people that John has been representing for 9 years as a community advocate. He truly represents this district, and embodies every resident's desire to live in a county of which they can be proud.
