It is common knowledge that show business can be a tough business. This can be especially true for the comedy entertainer trying to make a decent part-time income or full time career in stand-up comedy.
But according to Steve Roye, author of the Killer Stand-up Comedy System, getting comedy work in high paying comedy markets is relatively easy if armed with the right techniques and information. Roye is bringing his expertise to Roswell this month to debut his new one-day course for comedians entitled, Getting Gigs: Making Your Own Stage Time.
Most books and courses available for comedy entertainers today tend to focus on getting into the comedy club market. The most unique aspect of the course presented by Roye is that it concentrates on self-promotion in high paying markets outside the comedy club market. "There are simply too many comedians and not enough jobs at the comedy clubs," states Roye. "But there are plenty of other markets that are literally starving for high quality comedy talent and are willing to pay good money for that talent. A truly talented comedy professional can work in any market at any time, whether it be a comedy club or a cruise ship."
The Getting Gigs: Making Your Own Stage Time course is specifically designed to provide new and seasoned comedians with the information, tools and techniques necessary to enter high paying comedy markets, such as the corporate market, in just a few months. This course also provides direction on how comedians can work in teams in order to promote themselves and reach their comedy performing and income goals.
Roye is quick to point out that in order to thrive in the higher paying markets, it is mandatory that the comedy entertainer have a clean act. "You simply can't take a comedy club act filled with profanity and genital humor and expect to get very far in the higher paying comedy markets," explains Roye. "To make real money in comedy business, you need to have an act you can perform in any market. Even in the comedy club market as a whole, a clean act has become quite a novelty and can present a marketing advantage over the competition."
Roye is also offering a free 45-minute telephone seminar prior to the course to provide details on the course content and to answer any questions from prospective students.
Roye is a professional comedian himself and founder of the Global Comedy Network, an internationally recognized organization dedicated to business systems development, product research, quality improvement and marketing strategy development for world entertainment markets in the field of stand-up comedy and presentations incorporating humor.
The course is being held at the Funny Farm Comedy Club in Roswell on July 23. The cost of the course is $199.
